3D Printed Bridge vs Wooden Bridge Shootout!

October 6th’s Violin Society of America’s “First Fridays” series talk was great fun! Attended by premiere luthiers and violin acoustics experts from around the world, we had the opportunity to show the current research and discuss future experiments. Special thanks to Tom Nania and D’Addario for their generous support of the project! In the future, video of the entire 2 hour VSA session, including questions, answers, and discussion, will be available at the Oberlin Acoustic Workshop's Video Channel. To listen to some 3D printed bridges vs. wooden bridges samples of solo Bach, check out this YouTube video! To learn how to make a 3D printed bridge, and see bridge frequency response charts (admittance), you can download the files used in the VSA presentation here, including a high resolution .WAV file of the video soundtrack.

Special thanks to Tom Nania (above left) and D’Addario for their generous support of this project! “Bruiser” the cello (center) and John (right) had a great time visiting them in the impressive Farmingdale, NY, facility.
